A large handbuilt ceramic bowl in rustic terracotta stoneware — reactive blue glazed inside, hand-painted with green and blue botanicals outside, and finished with a graphite-black heart-textured rim. Made by hand in our Scottish studio. The making: Each bowl is hand-built from rustic terracotta stoneware clay using the slabbing technique — clay rolled flat, cut and joined by hand into a generous shallow bowl. The inside is glazed with a reactive light-blue glaze that breaks to deeper brown at the rim where it pools and reacts with the iron in the clay. The outside is coated with an ivory slip as a canvas, then hand-painted with botanical motifs in soft greens and blues. The rim is impressed with a row of small heart outlines and finished in a graphite-black glaze. Two firings; all glazes are food-safe. How it looks: A milky swimming-pool blue inside that dips to caramel and chocolate brown where the reactive glaze meets the rim. The outside reads almost like a painted slipware bowl — chalky ivory with soft sage-green leaves and forget-me-not blue flowers drawn freehand. A row of tiny heart outlines runs around the rim under the deep graphite-black band. Use it for: A centrepiece fruit bowl on a dining table Serving salad or pasta for four at the table A large statement bowl on a kitchen island or sideboard Displayed empty on an open shelf as a piece of slow-made art A considered wedding or anniversary gift A considered gift for someone marking a milestone — weddings, big anniversaries, housewarmings, or simply because. Care: Hand wash with mild soap recommended to preserve the reactive glaze; dishwasher safe if needed. Size: Length: approximately 25.4 cm (10 in) Width: approximately 29 cm Height: approximately 11.5 cm Weight: approximately 1.8 kg Handmade — small variations in shape, painting and reactive glaze are part of the character
